Forgive us blog-people, it has been far too long since our last blog.
Since our last check in, we've poured a bar, put paint on the walls, coated (some of) the floors, and continued to work on various parts of the construction. Like any other commercial build, the never ending list of small projects continues to be, well, never-ending. And like any other commercial project, the budget get's bulged, prices climb and the owner-operators end up trying to pitch in wherever they can.
This construction has been especially taxing, as we are in a wild economic climate where prices continue to escalate, work continues to drag on, contractor availability varies, and we still can't get some essential components. Yeah, like an electrical panel. That's right, although the panel was ordered 11 months ago, we still don't know when we will receive our 600amp master panel. Wild, we know. Running off temporary power has reached its limits, and we have been using temporary heat for far too long. Answering the age old question of, "when will you be open?" has certainly lost its allure.
In December the painters did their magic and hit all the posts and beams with black or near black paint, coated the walls and ceilings with some choice colors picked out by our interior design team (us and a cousin), and finally brought some life to the blandness that is a construction site.
Early January, we organized, fought, mixed, struggled, poured, and troweled a concrete bar. This was a process, included many hands with donated time, and many ideas tossed around and ultimately left us with a very unique bar that we think will be fitting in our fancy industrial building. Some pics attached here but a full post to follow once we have put the finishing touches on the bar, you know, when it's all pretty.
Bradley, our resident carpenter, made magic of the main ceiling by installing t&g pine (see pics). Then moved to the mezzanine floor, which is also the ceiling over the bar. Daren and Danielle then sanded and finished the deck (along with our side mezzanines). This mezzanine space is going to a wonderful place for overflow, special events, beer tastings, meetings and maybe even yoga? We are excited to see the finishes coming together to make this space super rustic yet super cozy.
We also received and enjoyed the installation of the hood, exhaust fan and make up unit from Nevtec. This was our first time working with them and their work was smooth and efficient.
Most recently, the boys from Liquid Stone have been manipulating our brewery walls, production area floors and now the customer area into beautiful seamless epoxy floors. The colors are all coming together and we look forward to working, producing and entertaining in the space.
We have received more pieces of equipment, yearning for the day we can move them all inside. For now, we store them out back until all the floors are complete and we don't need to move them twice.
In the next few weeks, we should be finishing up the customer area floors, completing kitchen walls, working on some trim details, getting electrical finishes in, plumbing finishes in and finishing the bar. Once we get a few more pieces of equipment in, our installers will be here to run glycol, steam and other utilities to our tanks. Then we can set up the bar, the kitchen, and the customer areas. It's almost too easy...
Lastly, if you have seen the economic climate we are in, and what it costs to build anything, and feel like helping out, check out this for a way to help the cause!
'Till next time.
