Interior Construction Continues!

It has been a minute since our last post.  Progress has moved a bit slowly over the last month and half.  We have been awaiting the return of contractors, delivery of equipment, and other timing issues.

After Kevin and his crew framed up all the wood exteriors, the roof, and taped and sealed everything, and we prepped for the slab, then, we waited.  Finally, we got a call from SD Ireland and they came and poured our slab.  What an awesome job they did and their crew was exceptional at making sure all of our pitches came out nicely.  We were able to to get a fun time-lapse out of it (available on our instagram, @twoheroesbrewery) as well.

After the slab was poured, we awaited SD Ireland's return to pour the two walk in coolers and the mezzanine equipment platform.  Finally, three weeks later, they returned to finish the job.  This is how construction has been going, post covid.  All contractors are struggling with having enough help, and construction is booming.  Therefore, we have contractors showing up randomly, staying briefly, and then returning randomly again.  In addition, we are waiting for windows, equipment, etc.  And so it goes.  This is the new norm.  Other than being wildly over budget, and delayed by months, we are all smiles!   Value engineering this building in this environment is becoming nearly impossible.

Shortly after the slabs were poured, Benoure, our plumber showed up and began rough in.  We did quite a bit of work with underground plumbing, so the rough in is not too complicated.  Water and wastewater are pretty important in this building, so we needed to be thoughtful about placement of utilities.  Additionally, we have three air handlers that will power a bunch of creatively place spiral ducts.  We are slowly figuring out the feel of the interior and its "warm industrial" look.

This week, the excavators were back to start finishing grades around the building, receive and install the waste tanks (5 of them!) and build out the parking.

Daren has begun to get all the equipment ordered.  With the way things are going, lead times can vary and we wanted to make sure we didn't open without the proper equipment.  This means we have had to store things at various locations (either covered, or accessible by tractor trailer).  We cannot put anything in the building yet, as they would just be in the way.  It's going to be interesting when we can start filling up the new space, we'll have to go around town and locate where everything is!

While all this goes on, Daren, Travis, Danielle, and Kyle have been brewing beer and operating our little pilot taproom up the road.  The beers are coming out excellent and the brand is being built around some good quality product and great customer service.  We are excited about the future, and the support from those around us has been pretty amazing.

Ireland's crew pours the slab!

The slab cures.  Note the trench drain running in the middle of the cellar.

The plumbing rough in begins.  A view looking through our bathrooms.

Ductwork and air handlers are being located with use of the scissor lift.

Rob from Benoure locates the ductwork and plans the layout.

Ductwork hung under the mezzanine and in the ceilings.

Hot and Cold Liquor Tanks are delivered.  They will live across the street until it is time for install.
